LED Light Therapy Treatments at ReShapeU

LED Light Therapy

is a painless treatment great for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improving uneven skin tone, minimising and eliminating active acne, photo-rejuvenation (skin damage) and also reducing the appearance of open pores and much more.

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode, which is a computer chip encased in a glass-like resin, which emits therapeutic wavelengths (or colours) of light energy.

Not to be confused with laser, the light therapy was originally developed to fast-track the healing of wounds and post surgery scars. The rejuvenation of healthy skin, too, was a happy coincidence.

“If the therapeutic light energy is in the correct wavelength, the cells in the dermis layer of skin will convert that light energy into ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is the fuel that the cell uses to do its job. The fibroblast cells in the dermis layer have the job of producing collagen (which give the skin fullness or that plumped look) and elastin (which give the skin the ability to bounce back). Thus, LED Light Therapy gives the cells a ‘full tank of fuel’ and these fibroblast cells start to produce collagen and elastin like when one was 20-25 years old.

The result is the complexion is plumped up with new collagen (which pushes the folds of the wrinkles out) and new elastin (which helps to tighten the skin and give it more elasticity). Another plus is that there’s no downtime and it can be done in a lunch break.

In clinic treatments are recommended weekly or bi weekly for a course of four to six treatments. It is Ideal for pre-wedding prep or before a big event, a session only takes 20-30 minutes.

It’s also an effective and pain-free approach to treating skin concerns such as hyper-pigmentation and adult acne.

The sensation is akin to lying in the sun (many people fall asleep).

If you’ve lost weight recently, or have a poor diet, or you’ve spend too much time in the sun, etc., then it can take longer to see the start of results, but with continued use everyone can benefit from LED light therapy.

While there has been conclusive studies into the effectiveness of LED light therapy, of course always listen to your aesthetic consultant.

LED is the only aesthetic device that has no contra-indications of any kind. It is good for all skin types, colours and conditions. It is safe for the eyes and it so cannot be overused.

So what is a LED Light Therapy?

It is a technology based skin treatment that uses specific wavelengths of natural light energy to restore your skin’s normal, healthy activity.

How does it work?

The energy is delivered by the blue, red, and infrared light emitting diodes (LEDs) and it enhances cellular metabolism. This in turn stimulates the body to build new collagen, increases circulation, and improves the functioning of the lymphatic system. The result is younger, healthier looking skin.

Is there proof that this technology works?

Clinical studies, scientific and medical research, independent testing and patient testimonials exist to prove the efficiency of Light-Therapy.  Research conducted by NASA’s space program has proven that near-infrared LED light therapy promotes wound healing and human tissue growth.

Is this technology approved for safety and efficiency?

Yes.  LED light-therapy has been FDA approved for applications such as skin rejuvenation, acne, wound healing and pain management.  While not all devices are approved, the devices used at Hull Laser Treatments are FDA approved and registered.

Are there any adverse effects from this treatment?
No. This treatment has no adverse reactions and no down-time.  LED light emitting devices are classified by the FDA as possessing “non-significant risk” due to the fact that they are completely safe and possess no possibility of harm from over-exposure.

Is the process abrasive or painful?

No.  A LED light therapy treatment is a gentle, painless, safe, non-invasive and non-abrasive treatment.

How is the treatment administered?
A trained aesthetic consultant will follow specific protocols to treat the face and or neck. You will experience a feeling of relaxation, light warmth and well being.

What is the recommended schedule for the LED therapy?

Depending on the individual age and the condition of the skin, the manufacturer recommends a series of treatments done weekly or bi-weekly, followed by regular monthly maintenance. Your aesthetic consultant will help you determine how many initial treatments will be most beneficial.

What is the length of time for the treatment?
Each treatment takes approximately 20-30 minutes.

How soon can I expect to see results?

The skin looks different after the first treatment: smoother and more hydrated with a natural radiant glow.  However, since the device is essentially stimulating the body’s natural healing mechanisms, the most visible results are not immediate.  Instead, results occur gradually over several weeks.  With each treatment you will see gradual improvement.

Is LED a good complement to other skin care treatments?

Absolutely! It helps strengthen and rejuvenate the skin at a cellular level so it amplifies the results achieved in any facial treatment.

Can I put my make-up back on immediately?

Yes, there is no downtime with this treatment.

Can I go out in the sun after this treatment?

Yes, the treatment does not increase photo-sensitivity. It is recommended that you apply a broad spectrum UVA and UVB sunscreen every day

Can I undergo HIFU while being treated with LED?

Yes, they work synergistically to increase collagen and elastin and improve the skin’s circulation.

Is LED for everyone?

While almost everyone can benefit from the use of light therapy, these treatments will have the greatest impact on skin with sluggish metabolism and slow cellular activity showing visible signs of ageing.   Contraindications for light therapy include pregnancy and epilepsy, photo-allergy, and medications that cause light sensitivity (such as Tetracycline). Also, if you are currently taking steroids or cortisone injections, you should not receive light therapy.
